Candlelight Ball

The 80th-anniversary celebration of the Candlelight Ball had more than two million reasons to celebrate. That’s how much was raised at the Grand Del Mar Resort hosted event. It was quite the floral-oriented evening, too. Roses and orchids of every shade of pink, red and in-between lined the red carpet entry, reception and dinner tables. All were done by florist Kathy Wright & Co. Betty Knight Scripps once again served as general chair of the ball. Ms. Scripps also was honored for her dedication and generosity with her own rose — the Betty Knight Scripps Rose. She now becomes part of the prestigious list of other notables with roses named after them. Others include Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana and Nancy Reagan.
