The design team at M.C. Brandt Interior Design Inc. specializes in residential remodels, working closely with clients on their current and future needs. The team designs a remodel from conceptual sketches to full CAD plans through furnishing and move-in, with construction observation an important aspect of our work.
Make Your Space Your Own
When remodeling, use neutral, non-trendy materials for surfaces that do not get changed often or are a huge expense to change like granite, tile and flooring. Trendy items should be used for materials like paint, pillows and accessories, which can be frequently changed with ease.
Almost everyone has an opinion on how you should redo your home or the best place to buy products but they may be talking about their own likes, not yours. Hire a designer who listens to your needs, wants, dreams and desires and then translates them into an environment that feels good to you. It should nurture your physical, spiritual, aesthetic, mental and emotional well-being. You should not feel like you’re living in someone else’s home.
If you are remodeling a shower, put in two showerheads, one stationary and one movable which is great for little ones, plants, animals or therapeutic massages. Also, put in niches for shampoo, soap, etc. Always add a bit of a seat, either in a corner of a shower, or if space permits, across one end. The seat can extend to the floor or be open underneath, which I prefer for toe space. Use the same tile as the shower.
Lighting in every space should be in layers. Fluorescent is not all bad and is an efficient, inexpensive light source for tasks. Use dimmers, chandeliers, cans and spots all together for ambient, accent and task lighting.
