Now that the holidays are behind us and spring is on its way, it’s time to reorganize and get ready for the next season.
This is the perfect time to re-evaluate the collections of “stuff” around the house and make some sense of it all. Collections of memorabilia, china, crystal, figurines, etc., need to be organized in an attractive manner. When collectibles are displayed all together, it makes so much more of a statement than if placed just here and there in a room. For instance, a collection of blue-and-white porcelain plates is lovely when displayed hanging on one wall. Make sense of their shapes and sizes and organize as you would a group of pictures. Some smaller items of collectibles are lovely on a display table that is made with a wood-and-glass framed box that opens at the top.
If you have many collections, pack some away, store them in plastic containers that are stackable and bring them out at appropriate seasons. Rotate your collections. It’s more meaningful when you can enjoy your treasures little by little instead of all at once.
Quilts or other textile collections look great folded and displayed in a cabinet all their own. This same concept can be used for any larger collections.
The idea of grouping makes sense when you are framing pictures. Use the same style or color of frame for the whole group. It doesn’t look so cluttered and can be more dramatic.
Don’t forget to use your collectibles in different ways than for what they were intended. Put a floral oasis in the base of an old crystal candleholder and fill with fresh flowers. Use your imagination, be creative and have fun with all your treasures.
